Bad Moles

Question: A 63 year old male is referred to you for sentinel lymph node biopsy following resection of a cheek melanoma.  The depth of the lesion was 1.5 mm.  Lymphoscintigraphy localizes the sentinel node to the perifacial region; a single perifacial lymph node is identified and removed.  Permanent section pathology demonstrates tumor in the node.  Is there a survival benefit to perform regional lymphadenectomy in this situation?    [Answer will be posted with next week's new question]
