Dry it Up

Question:  A child with cerebral palsy has trialled anticholinergic agents for sialorrhea with limited success and significant gastrointestinal side effects.  The next step suggested to the patient's parents is chemodenervation of the parotid and submandibular glands with Botox.  What is the mechanism of Botox for sialorrhea?   [Answer will be posted with next week's new question]

Answer to last week's question, Taking a Side (June 22, 2015):

Odontogenic.  Several studies have found the most common cause of unilateral paranasal sinusitis to be related to dental disease.
