
The patient was brought into the operating room and identified by name and medical record number. After successful mask anesthesia was induced by the anesthesia service, the patient was positioned and draped in a standard fashion for ear examination. The operating microscope was brought into the field and utilized throughout the remainder of the case. An otic speculum was introduced into the left external auditory canal, and wax was cleaned with a wax curette and gentle suction. This revealed (appearance of TM). An anteroinferrior radially placed myringotomy was fashioned and a (type of PE tube) was placed without difficulty. An identical procedure was then performed on the right. (appearance of TM). At this point, the operating microscope was removed from the surgical field, and the patient was turned over to anesthesia for recovery. The patient tolerated this procedure well and was returned to the post anesthesia recovery unit in stable condition. There were no complications and minimal blood loss during this procedure. All surgical pauses were observed. Standard operating room protocol and universal precautions were utilized.
